The co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak, is not convinced that Bitcoin will supplant the national currencies to become a defacto global currency. However, he hopes that this will one day be the case.
In a talk during the Money/20/20 Europe event, Wozniak told CNBC that the “purity” of the idea that people around the world could share a single currency attracts him – despite the separation by national borders.
According to him:
“I buy into what Jack Dorsey says, not that I necessarily believe it’s going to happen, but because I want it to be that way, that is so pure thinking.”
Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter and the digital payment processor Square, also said that he believes Bitcoin will be the world’s only currency within a single decade. However, the “Woz” (Steve Wozniak) has long been a fan of Bitcoin.
Back in the day, Wozniak said that Bitcoin is “pure digital gold” and unlike many cryptocurrencies, it is totally decentralized and not run by a company and with no business model.
Wozniak explained:
“Bitcoin is mathematically defined, there is a certain quantity of bitcoin, there’s a way it’s distributed… and it’s pure and there’s no human running, there’s no company running and it’s just… growing and growing… and surviving,”
Wozniak is also bullish on Ethereum, mainly because it views itself as a platform rather than just a store of value.
