Famous boxer Mayweather Floyd got booed at a bitcoin conference after his Ethereum sponsorship and he didn’t even talk much about Bitcoin as we can see more in our latest bitcoin news.
The boxer didn’t get the memo that he should speak about Bitcoin in a Bitcoin-only event and taking the stage, he downplayed the importance of the world’s biggest cryptocurrency. He encouraged members in the audience to believe in themselves rather than in one crypto token. He and his team committed a faux pas by wearing t-shirts for EthereumMax which is a new Ethereum-based token that is sponsoring Mayweather’s Sunday night with Logan Paul. He said:
“Everybody in the crypto world is competing with one another, whereas I feel like everybody should be able to choose what they want to choose and go with who they want to go with. I believe there’s gonna be another cryptocurrency just as large as Bitcoin some day.”

The response was massive booing from the crowd that had initially greeted him with a standing ovation. The undefeated fighter defended himself and said that without any cryptocurrency, he was able to make millions. He then sidestepped a question from Tracy Leparulo about the athletes that take bonuses and accept payments in Bitcoin:
“I would never tell anyone what to do, what to invest in.”
That is not entirely true because his latest choice was to be sponsored by ethereum and then had his new line of NFTs and tokens that provide ownership over assets and memorabilia. Back in 2018, Mayweather and DJ Khaled were charged with promoting an initial coin offering for Centra Tech without disclosing what they got paid to do and the founder of the project is now even serving an eight-year jail sentence. The Boxer Mayweather got a settlement with the SEC for $614,775 in penalties and he was banned from promoting securities for three years. While the Securities and Exchange Commission under Jay Clayton has affirmed that BTC is not a security and the boxer was in no hurry to promote it or speak about it in his talks.
Bitcoin 2021 conference organizers made it clear that the conference is supposed to be about Bitcoin:
“This is a Bitcoin only conference. Please stay focused and on topic at the event. Save conversations about other protocols and cryptocurrencies for outside the conference.”
