The Mastermind behind the twitter hack holds more than $3 million worth of Bitcoin that he will likely use to pay his set bail so let’s try and find out in the latest Bitcoin news.
The bail was set at $725,000 for the 17-year old Graham Clark, the alleged Twitter hacker. All of the coins were returned to Clark after a separate law enforcement investigation last year. The teen responsible for the hack on the Twitter platform will have to pay a penny if they want to wait for him to go home for his trial but the holdings of millions of dollars worth of BTC will take care of that for sure. The Bail was set at $725,000 in a Florida Courtroom for Graham Ivan Clark, the 17-year old alleged to have mastermind the Twitter hack which impacted high-profile accounts such as Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Elon Musk.
Clark’s attorney disclosed during the hearing, Clark holds more than 300 BTC worth about $3.3 million and in the latest twist of tales in one of the biggest Twitter security breaches ever. While the investigation is ongoing, it’s now known whether Clark gained access to the Twitter God Mode back end interface by manipulating employees from the social media company which gained access through the Slack messaging system defeating the 2-facto authentication security.
The mastermind used the access to sell accounts that were created when Twitter started moving to the Bitcoin scam where multiple high-profile accounts tweeted messages that requested donations to fake coronavirus-related cryptocurrency charities or offering to send double the value of the BTC sent to a scam address. During the court hearing, prosecutors argued that about 300 BTC held by Clark will not be eligible for use in the bail payments saying that “every penny that this defendant has access to is by ill-gotten gains.”
The defense argued that BTC should be allowed for use as they pointed out to a law enforcement investigation that at first seized but then returned the BTC in question to Clark while filing no more charges against him. Clark has the capacity to post bail but then it will be restricted in many other ways. The Judge ordered that if this happens, Clark will be required to wear an electric monitor and remain confined except when he goes to visit the doctor or his attorney. Clark will have to surrender his passport and he is banned from accessing the internet on any device until his trial ends.
