Mark Cuban has made an impressive fortune in investing in innovative technologies, but that does not mean that he agrees with every new thing that comes over. Example number one is a cryptocurrency, as Cuban made his dislike of cryptocurrency well known. In a Forbes interview he said that there is “no chance” that Bitcoin will at any point of time be used as a safe form of currency.
As per the reports from Forbes that we have in our Bitcoin news today, he was whether the billionaire star if he could ever imagine a future where Bitcoin (BTC) will be used in a mainstream manner. He answered that he could not because of the challenges that the first and most famous cryptocurrency is facing.
He answered that Bitcoin (BTC) is “too difficult to use, too easy to hack, way too easy to lose, too hard to understand, too hard to assess value”. Cuban also added that it is “too much work” for common people to comprehend why should they use Bitcoin (BTC) over other cryptocurrencies that exist in the crypto sphere.
This is just the latest of many dismissals of Bitcoin by the famous billionaire. In October of 2019, he said that Bitcoin (BTC) had less use than baseball cards and bananas. He said to Wired:
“Bitcoin–there’s even less you can do with it: at least I can look at my baseball card … I’d rather have bananas [than bitcoin], I can eat bananas.”
In the interview for Wired, he also talked about the challenges that are faced in the sense of Bitcoin (BTC) adoption. He stated:
“Crypto is so complicated for 99% of the population. Do you put in in a device, do you print it out, how do you keep from being hacked, who’s going to host it for you?”
In an interesting plot twist, the notorious dislike towards Bitcoin (BTC) is not stopping him from accepting Bitcoin (BTC) as a payment option for his very own NBA team, the Dallas Mavericks. The team began to accept Bitcoin (BTC) five years ago, but because no one was paying with the digital asset, it stopped.
The Mavericks started again to accept Bitcoin (BTC) in August of 2019 for game tickets and merchandise. Mark Cuban stated that the team “decided to offer it again because the gateways became simpler, and if we have a customer that wants to buy with it, I’ll take bitcoin or bananas.”
