The 24-year old man from India is being held in custody after allegedly purchasing ecstasy pills with BTC on the dark web. The drugs came from Germany before they were picked up by authorities in India. It took the Narcotics Control Bureau 19 days to identify the man as the recipient of the drugs. Rahman, 24, was arrested after purchasing $27,000 worth of ecstasy pills in exchange for BTC according to the Times of India.
The drugs were sent from Frankfurt at the end of July with a false address according to the reports. Rahman was due to receive illegal goods via the Foreign Post Office in Chamarajpet. The parcel contained 750 grey and brown colored pills that were confirmed to be ecstasy known as MDMA. The parcel was inspected at the end of July and according to the Times of India, the Narcotics Control Bureau confirmed the drugs while the Bureau’s Bangalore Zonal director Amit Ghawate led the investigation to track the receiver down. 19 days later, Rahman was found:

Speaking of drugs, the White House issued two advisories regarding illicit drug purchases in the United States, both of which contain references to the specific cryptocurrencies which have been allegedly used as part of this process. there has been an outlining of the cryptocurrencies which were used to pay for foreign drugs. CVC, as you can see in the context, refers to “convertible virtual currencies” which include the names of Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ethereum (ETH) as well as Monero (XMR), the White House noted. The drug fentanyl is apparently also noted by the advisories who said:
“Similar to purchases from a foreign source of supply using MSBs or online payment processors, individuals located in the United States search for fentanyl and identify potential websites that may provide the opportunity to purchase illicit drugs online. Foreign representatives will instruct the U.S.-based individual to send payments through CVC, such as bitcoin, bitcoin cash, ethereum, or monero.”
