Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk said he has purchased bitcoin back in 2012 and has held it since then so let’s read more in our latest Bitcoin news today.
During the ongoing 2021 BTC conference, legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk revealed that he purchased BTC in 2012 after he watched how it works on the Silk Road and added that he kept most of the holdings aside from donating some of the charity organizations. He compared it to his first passion which is skateboarding and noted that the crypto industry skyrocketed in popularity much faster and said that BTC took over a whole city while it took years before skateboarding became mainstream.
He was also introduced to BTC via the famous dark web website Silk Road which allowed users to buy and sell items anonymously and their most preferred method of payments was BTC. He said that he didn’t take advantage of the platform but was quite impressed with how BTC works because it was super fast and international. He also wanted to learn how to buy it and said that after he did, he didn’t do much with it, he just watched. Eventually, Hawk donated four bitcoins to charity organizations.
Hawk’s organization is working on building skateboarding parks all across the US and other countries that accept BTC donations for a few years. The skateboarding legend partnered with Eternity Chain to immortalize the last 540 skate trick as an NFT.
As we reported, Although it’s the largest and most popular cryptocurrency across the world, BTC lost its top trading spot in the US a week ago and the first place went to an NFT platform called Ethernity Chain which hosts the NFT of skateboarding superstar Tony Hawk. At the same time, ERN’s price skyrocketed by more than 20 times since March. GoinGecko even breached the top ten trending assets in the US from March 20 to March 26th and the first digital asset by market cap takes the third spot weirdly enough.
BTC trails to Ecomi and what’s even more surprising to Eternity Chain. The latter is a blockchain-based platform that enables users to take advantage of the popular craze of NFTs and they can create their own unique digital artworks that are tokenized and traded on the blockchain. The project received traction from other notable names and one of them was skateboarding legend Tony Hawk.
