Kurt Russell Will Star In A Movie About Cryptocurrencies

The Hollywood star Kurt Russell is in the news lately for his new role in an upcoming indie film about cryptocurrencies.

The film will be titled “Crypto” and will feature Russell as well as Luke Hemsworth, Alexis Bledel and Jeremie Harris among others.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will focus on a young anti-money laundering agent (played by Beau Knapp) who returns to his hometown (New York) in order to investigate a case of corruption and fraud. Here, Russell will be playing the father of Knapp’s character, according to the press materials.

The film is already being called “a thriller in the vein of The Firm and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” according to its producers – but with a cryptocurrency-focused twist. Written by Carlyle Eubank and David Frigerio, this will be one of the first movies about cryptocurrencies.

According to one of the producers:

“Cryptocurrency has captured the attention and imagination of consumers and entrepreneurs all over the world but has never been explored in film in such a nuanced and exciting way,”

The independent film is currently being shot in New York and there is no release date specified. “Crypto” may also be one of the most high-profile films to date that centers around cryptocurrencies.

Last year, the Coen brothers – the filmmakers behind movies like The Big Lebowski and No Country For Old Men – were working on a movie about the Silk Road which is known as the now-defunct dark market that issued Bitcoin as its central currency. Another example is Bitcoin Heist (2018) – a popular Vietnamese movie coming from the other part of the world – with a focus on an international, high-stakes manhunt.
