A cryptocurrency exchange in Japan has given several users Bitcoins for free this Tuesday, all because of a technical error that allowed several traders to purchase Bitcoin for 0 yen, which is the biggest discounts ever on the leading cryptocurrency.
The Osaka-based Zaif exchange has just issued a statement where it revealed that a technical glitch has occurred during an 18-minute window allowing seven consumers to purchase BTC for free. The company has corrected the customer balances since then and is still trying to sort the matter with the traders.
On the other hand, the traders tried to transfer the coins out of the exchange after the transaction. Additionally, this glitch caused the system to show incorrect trading data. The statement said:
“We apologize for any inconvenience and inconvenience caused to you by our customers,” the company said in the statement, according to a rough translation. “We will strive to prevent recurrence and we will continue to work on improving our services.”
If you haven’t heard of Zaif, it is basically an exchange that processed $17.3 million worth of trading volume over the preceding 24 hours. This made it rank on the 51st places among exchanges that charge trading fees.
According to Reuters, Zaif is one of the 16 crypto exchanges that are licensed by Japan’s Financial Services Agency (FSA), right next to exchanges like Coincheck (known for the major hack that resulted in a theft of $530 million-valued NEM tokens).
Some rumors say that the 16 licensed exchanges are currently planning to establish a self-regulatory body that will be registered with the FSA.
