The famous CEO of Twitter and the active CEO of Square, Jack Dorsey, is in the latest cryptocurrency news for revealing some groundbreaking details. As the man in charge for the payments firm Square, Dorsey has built a small team that is in charge of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency development back in March.
Even though it is still early days, the CEO of Square confirmed that he had recently hired the former Google director Steve Lee and put him in charge of the team. As he said, he’d interviewed “tens of candidates” for the post before arriving at Lee as his best choice.
Jack Dorsey will have Lee leading the team as well as defining its future path, he said. However, what’s more interesting and reported by many best cryptocurrency news sites is Square’s potential to help the Bitcoin code.
Right now, Square is eyeing around five engineers and one designer who will apparently be working on a single project and not many. This is mainly because Dorsey aims to “make some step changes to various aspects of the ecosystem, versus an iteration,” as he recently said.
While one would expect developers, the actual choice of a designer is a surprise in such early stage project. However, Jack Dorsey puts this down to the need to make cryptocurrencies more accessible and provide access on the technology.
In the interview with NextWeb, Dorsey joked and said that the team does not want any “jerks” and that it is important for the candidates to have good technical abilities.
“We want to see significant open-source contributions to various projects. Bitcoin Core is a great example of that, but there’s others, too,” he noted.
When addressing the particular role in the crypto ecosystem, Jack Dorsey explained that Square Crypto might conduct “grungy but meaningful” code reviews in order to boost the development. This could give a “huge boost” to the space as the CEO noted, working to improve both efficiency and security.
“There’s still a number of big flaws within the Bitcoin community right now,” Dorsey told The Next Web.
Aside from the general development work of the crypto team, Square is also eyeing Bitcoin technology and is interested in the products, too. Back in February, Dorsey announced that there are plans to integrate the lighting network – and an early-stage Bitcoin payments tech – with Square’s Cash app.
Meanwhile, in the altcoin news, we can see some movements – mainly triggered by the recent surge of Bitcoin.
