The most famous YouTube star known by his handle PewDiePie is in the latest cryptocurrency news – again – for his new move towards embracing Bitcoin and crypto in general. As a long-time holder of the most subscribed YouTube channel, PewDiePie has confidently signed a lot of deals over the past years.
His new deal, however, is with the blockchain streaming platform DLive – something that went viral on many best cryptocurrency news sites and put the legend in many featured posts in the Bitcoin and altcoin news sections.
For those of you who don’t know, DLive is meant to revolutionize the live streaming videos where content providers as well as consumers are rewarded with a cryptocurrency called Lino. The platform claims to take no percentages off the creator earnings and won’t charge any fees.
After raising $20 million early last year, Lino started building what is called “YouTube on the blockchain” and the partnership with PewDiePie is definitely a major step towards making their plans a reality.
What’s also interesting is the fact that this partnership comes after a petition to ban PewDiePie from YouTube, accusing his channel of being “one of the largest platforms for white supremacist content” – an initiative that gathered 80,000 signatures in response to PewDiePie namechecked by the New Zealand Christchurch gunman before carrying his attack on two mosques and killing 50 people.
On a side note, however, a lot of fans will benefit from this partnership and be actually involved in the blockchain technology. By following PewDiePie and his move to a decentralized platform, fans will be able to bring awareness of Bitcoin, blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies to PewDiePie’s audience.
PewDiePie currently has around 94 million subscribers on YouTube, most of which are aged between 18 and 24 which makes up 44% of his views. According to surveys, more young people are open to Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies and decentralized services than ever before – especially compared to older groups.
