As of recently, Facebook announced that it is officially revising its blanket ban on all the cryptocurrency advertisements on the social media site.
The announcement also highlights that this is a revision of Facebook’s cryptocurrency policy – and not a removal of the policy. For example, ICO and binary options advertisements will remain banned.
As Facebook Business writes about the ban policy:
In the last few months, we’ve looked at the best way to refine this policy — to allow some ads while also working to ensure that they’re safe. So starting June 26, we’ll be updating our policy to allow ads that promote cryptocurrency and related content from pre-approved advertisers. But we’ll continue to prohibit ads that promote binary options and initial coin offerings.
Still, crypto-related services and businesses (including exchanges) will now be allowed to run ads.
At this point, it remains to be seen whether Google and Twitter crypto ad bans will remain. After all, these search engines and social networks generate much of their revenue from selling advertisements – and will definitely re-think their decision to ban any crypto-related ads.
In the end, the update on Facebook’s blanket ban on ads like this comes in a great time – when Bitcoin is preparing for a new surge and the market is winning on many fronts when it comes to regulation.
