It seems like Facebook censored BTC-related content again and even used a hashtag in an effort to have a “safer community.” Following the latest developments, we are reading more in our bitcoin latest news.
Over the past days, Facebook was busy censoring all posts that include the #Bitcoin hashtag in the description. However, there are no distinctions as videos, messages, and photos have been censored thus people are blocked from accessing any information that is related to the cryptocurrency. before you enter the hashtag, keep in mind that users in different parts of the world are confronted with a censorship screen where Facebook ensures that all posts are “temporarily hidden” in order to keep the community safer, according to policies.
A few users went on Twitter and denounced the ban as Twitter has a pro-bitcoin point of view. It allows using hashtags but the cryptocurrency has its own emoji as well. The CEO of the social media platform talked about Bitcoin on numerous occasions saying that it will play a huge role in finance’s future. Commented on why Facebook censored BTC-related, we can see tweets like this:
“🚨 Bitcoin censored on Facebook!
I was searching for #Bitcoin content on Facebook and apparently that hashtag is under a “temporary” ban.
This is outrageous 😡 Please retweet! pic.twitter.com/w4MY5GD5Y1

Beware of #Bitcoin!”
It seems that Bitcoin is the most dangerous crypto asset in the ecosystem as Facebook is allowing searches for other altcoins like Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, and Cardano, and other “safer projects” like onecoin. Some other hashtags that Facebook seems to consider safer as #drugs, #xans, #counterfeit, #weapons, #whitesupremacy, #isis, and #Hamas. While the hashtag for Bitcoin is a strong no-no, the search results without the hashtag are normal and have not been censored by the social media platform.
This is not the first time that the social media giant censored BTC-related content as in 2018, Mark Zuckerberg decided to change policies and to prohibit any advertisements that promote trading of cryptos and other ICOs. In an official blog post, the company described crypto assets as products that could harm the users’ interest. They assured that the policy will be broad until they were able to refine the censorship mechanisms that are applied to these types of ads:
“We’ve created a new policy that prohibits ads that promote financial products and services that are frequently associated with misleading or disappointing promotional practices, such as binary options, initial coin offerings, and cryptocurrency.”
