One of the recent signs that the cryptocurrency industry is booming is the latest news that about the CEO of Coinbase, which recently entered the 40 Under 40 list by Fortune Magazine.

The 24-year old Russian-Canadian programmer from Toronto who was nothing but a coder years ago is now more influential than Rihanna who is one of the biggest pop stars in the world. However, this is not the most impressive story.

Last year, the ’40 Under 40′ list by Fortune included names of the world’s most influential young people in business. The names of the tennis player Serena Williams, the French President Emmanuel Macron, and the Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg were all part of it.

This year, the list still has “the usual big-hitters” like Zuckerberg and the Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom (who is #1 on 2018’s list). However, what catches the eye this time is the presence of a cluster of cryptocurrency industry figures, among which is the founder of Coinbase Fred Ehrsam and the Coinbase co-founder, Brian Armstrong.

Armstrong comes in at number 20, just one spot ahead of Rihanna. However, he is not the only one from the crypto industry to take place in the top thirty. Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum and Vlad Tenev, the founder of Robinhood also follow, taking the 22nd and 24th place respectively.

Adam Draper is one of the people that are most excited about this list. According to the Boost VC founder, this list “makes crypto as big as Riri”. As he tweeted:

“This is awesome! @brian_armstrong and @VitalikButerin and @vladtenev are ranked #20 and #22 and #24 on the @FortuneMagazine #40Under40. #21 is @rihanna! ‘#Crypto is as big as #Riri’ – new slogan for our industry.”

Meanwhile, Coinbase has seen massive growth since its inception in 2012. The platform right now has over 13 million users across 190 countries. In 2017, it became one of the only five crypto companies that obtained a BitLicense from the New York Department of Financial Services.
