The BTC Exchange Blockchain.com starts giving users free NFT domains with a partnership with Unstoppable Domains which also plans to create them for other brands as well so let’s read more today in our latest Bitcoin news.
The early BTC Exchange Blockchain.com announced it will give its millions of customers a free NFT domain which is a tool that will allow them to use a simple human-friendly username in the place of a long string of random characters which make up the wallet address. The giveaway was carried out via Unstoppable Domains which is a company that is doing for Web3 what other domain services are doing for the internet today. Blockchain.com announced it had completed an integration that will allow customers to tie addresses purchased via Unstoppable Domains to their wallets.
Unstoppable Domains said it already assigned over 2 million NFT domains and most of them have the suffixes “.crypto”, “.wallet”, “.nft” so the Blockchain.com giveaway will entail a new suffix now “.blockchain” which companies frame as the first branded domain name in Web3 but it is likely that most people will see the domain as referring to the noun and not the company:
“With Unstoppable Domains, users can secure NFT domains that give them full ownership and control of their digital identity. They also provide a user-owned, secure, and portable Web3 identifier users can use to log into and transact with more than 200 apps, wallets, exchanges, marketplaces, games and the metaverse.”
The new domains like other offerings are minted on the Polygon network and inscribed on the blockchain and can easily be sold and traded. Unstoppable Domains Senior Vice President Sandy Carter touted the NFT domains as a simpler way to provide addresses for crypto transactions but it is a very important tool to establish an identity on the web. Carter added that the domains are akin to login credentials for sites like google but that a single name can be sued and used on a wide range of applications. Carter said that Unstoppable Domains is working with other companies and offers NFT domains bearing their names. If the practice catches on, it can lead to a future where consumers will interact with companies via NFT domains.
