BottlePay allows UK users to send BTC to other users on social media, the platform went live after a few years of development so let’s read more in today’s BTC news.
Bitcoin wallet startup BottlePay launched in the UK yesterday and made it easier to send BTC Lightning payments to people that use their social media accounts. The app works as a basic BTC wallet and lets you store Bitcoin both on-chain and on the Lightning Network while you can also trade between Bitcoin and GBP in the app. The app’s focus is on making it a frictionless platform to send BTC to other people on social media which is why Bottlepay allows UK users to enjoy this feature.
CNBC journalist Joumana Bercetche already took part in the experiment as she was gifted some BTC via her mobile number or her Twitter account and said:
“Which Chris just sent me a fraction of a Bitcoin?!! Who are you! Why are you sending me £1.62?”

For those that don’t have the app installed yet, once you send BTC to someone’s phone number or social media handle, it texts them right back with a link to download the app where they will be able to receive the funds so if they already have the app, the money will get sent to them as fast as possible and with using Lightning it is basically in a matter of moments. The app works with social media apps like Reddit, Twitter, Discord, and GitHub.
The Bitcoin Lightning Network is a second layer solution that is built on top of the main Bitcoin network and allows anyone to send parts of a BTC with a few seconds using QR codes. The cost of sending a transaction is ridiculously low compared to the mainnet BTC fees. The app is now available for both Android and iOS in the UK and will be expanding to Europe soon.
As reported previously, The fully compliant and revamped Bottlepay app returned in September 2020, featuring fiat integration and supporting Bitcoin tweets. The service will enable users to spend BTC from their national currency as Pete Cheyne (founder of Bottlepay) said.

As reported, the first version of this app was shut down by the creators at the end of 2019. Knowing that the 5AMLD EU regulation would be coming into effect by January 2020, the app wanted to be fully compliant and scalable.
