Lightning Network is a second layer scaling solution designed to speed up BTC transactions and to reduce costs by routing transactions via channels without having to use the bitcoin blockchain to verify each transaction. It works similarly to the settlement systems used by the likes of Visa and Mastercard, verifying the buyer’s funds and the seller’s request before settling the transaction later. Dorsey didn’t specify whether Lightning Network will be integrated into Twitter or BlueSky which is a project to create a decentralized standard for social media that was launched in 2019.
