WikiLeaks received $2.2 million in crypto donations according to the latest reports that we have in our cryptocurrency latest news.
The most famous organization in the world by Julian Assange WikiLeaks received $2.2 million in crypto donations to continue publishing news leaks and classified media by anonymous sources. It was founded back in 2006 by Julian Paul Assange who is an Australian Activity, editor, and publisher. He was arrested in 2019 in London facing charges in the United States of conspiring to hack into a Pentagon computer network in 2010. Since his platform is non-profit, it’s sustained by donations of individuals or entities who support their cause. But because they published sensitive information about a number of topics, many providers blocked payments to the organization including MasterCard, amEx, and Visa.
This is why they turned to cryptocurrency because it is impossible to censor. According to the official website of the organization, the currently available options for donating crypto to WikiLeaks include Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Bitcoin, Zcash, Monero, and Ethereum. The Bitcoin address has received a total of 30.45 BTC and it is now worth $1.51 million while at the time of writing the final balance was set at below 9 BTC. The first Bitcoin Cash address recieved a total of 225.2 BCH which is now worth $101,800 and none of the coins have been moved. The Litecoin address received a total of $163 LTC which is now about $25,680 and also the coins haven’t been moved.
The Zcash address recieved a total of 84 ZEC on the transparent balance and none of it was used which is around $13,800. The Ethereum address seems to be the second most preferred donation destination as it contains 145 ETH worth $587,883. The Monero amount was unable to track but the number of all combined is more than $2.2 million. Back in 2017, the founder Julian Assange claimed that WikiLeaks made a 50,000% return on BTC after investing in crypto back in 2010. The tweet that claimed this was posted in 2017 when the BTC price was sitting at $5000 but later that year, the number was closer to 200% ROI when BTC peaked at $20K. Today, the ROI would be higher as BTC is now trading below $50K. Elsewhere it was reported that Assange had a stroke during his time in Belmarsh prison where he is being held on remand.
