Opera and Solana partnered to support dapps compatibility and to provide the users with a wallet option as well so let’s read more in today’s cryptocurrency latest news.
Opera and Solana partner to become the kings of Web 3 browsers. In an official blog post on Friday, Opera announced the partnership with Solana and its native support for the popular blockchain thus allowing it to run a native SOL wallet as well as the other dapps in the ecosystem. The Opera team said that the integration was expected to be ready by Q1 2022 and by then the users should be able to enjoy the benefits of the blockchain in mobile and desktop browsers without restrictions.
The interest Opera has in Solana was not surprising since from 2018 the browser was taking a directed approach to crypto support and blockcahin technology but also Web 3. the news doesn’t seem to have excited the markets so much but the Opera stocks closed on Friday at $7.24 which is down by 4.6%. They did however see a modest rise from $6.96 as it started the week. For its part, Solana’s price trend didn’t react too much to the news and maintained a bearish trajectory initiated in November right after reaching an all-time high. SOL closed the day at $166 after a 7.86% drop. The price corrected to $169.21 which was about 35% below the ATH and a 14% drop in the weekly performance.
Unlike Web1 where the users consume all content provided by a website, Web 2 allows users to interact via a centralized platform, with Web 3 there’s no centralized entity controlling the interactions but the communication is done via technologies such as blockchain where all data flows in the network and there’s no point of failure. Some examples of Web 3 focused development are Storj, Filecoin, Hive, Sapien, UjoMusic, and Minds. Despite the many controversies, Brave was the undisputed king of the crypto browsers for a while and it is also powered by its own blockchain while the BAT token serves as the basis for the entire ecosystem which rethinks the business of advertising as well as content promotion. Users also get rewards for viewing ads and allow the community to reward the quality content creators.
Opera took a more pragmatic approach and they have developed a cryptocurrency but they also don’t want to create it. However, the web browser adapted to Web 3 quite fast, and in Addition to Solana, Opera has a native crypto wallet, support for Dapps, and many other features that are going to help in blockchain adoption.
