One of the most popular NBA players at the moment, the superstar Stephen Curry, finally inked a deal that will see him become the first celebrity getting the CryptoKitty treatment. The official partnership was struck through Moji (which is Curry’s emoji app development company) and will now see the Golden State Warriors point guard release a series of three CryptoKitties modeled to his likes.
As an owner of a company producing emojis, it is clear that Stephen was drawn to CryptoKitties – and that he is perfect for promoting this project. According to the co-founder of CryptoKitties:
“Stephen is the perfect partner to try out this new kind of Kitty. He’s an incredible athlete, but also has a deep interest in technology and innovation.”
The first “CurryKitty” is named “Steph Fur Three” and already went up for auction on Monday. Its final purchase price could rival the six-figure sales seen through mid-December when the CryptoKitty mania was at its highest.
The cat’s biography has also been published, focusing on Curry’s athletic achievements. The third CryptoKitty that is named Chef Furry, will focus on his culinary process. Its bio reads the following:
“Hi! I’m Chef Furry! You might know me as a two-time MVP on the court, but I’m also runner up for MVP in the kitchen (I share the kitchen with my partner and she keeps me humble),” his biography reads. “Can you guess what my favourite dish is? If you said curry, paws for a second and ask yourself if I’ve heard that one before. If you said my lady’s chicken parm, get out of my head!”
If you are hearing about CryptoKitties for the first time, it is basically a platform that allows users to buy, sell and breed digital cats. The platform is running on the Ethereum blockchain and acts as a decentralized application (DApp). The game, on the other hand, recently spun into its own venture after raising more than $12 million in its Series A funding round.
