The platform called Oursong allows artists to tokenize and to sell their work by awarding buyers with privileges such as access to unreleased music as well as chatrooms.
“Everyone can now turn stories, music, photography, and any kind of art into NFT trading cards called Vibes. Vibes allow you to unlock exclusive updates and access private chat communities where you can meet like-minded others.”
Legend will act as the Chief Impact Officer that got a task to attract new artists and their fan bases. In an interview, Legend said that although he spends most of his energy thinking about music, he does hope that the platform will help to connect people:
“When I think about what I want to do, I try to get involved with projects that I think will make the world more connected.”
Other well-known names attached to the project include Chris Lin, KKBOX, and more. Cofounder of teh live streaming platform Twitch Kevin Lin will join as well as venture capital firm founder Cherubic ventures Matt Cheng. According to Lin the platform will not require users to have a crypto wallet and as per the Terms of Service, you can only buy Vibes and OursongDollars:
“You can deposit OSD in OurSong by purchasing it with credit card, debit card, wire payment, or USD Coin deposited in your wallet on Circle’s blockchain.”
The musician and the co-founders didn’t provide more financial details about the proejct. This is not however the first entry for John Legend into the world of NFTs. Legend was announced as a partner of the OneOF NFT platform among the likes of Whitney Houston and doja Cat. He is also not the first celebrity to enter the world of NFT and crypto either but most other celebrities choose to mint their own collection rather than create a new platform.
One notable exception is the super Bowl champion Tom Brady who launched a sports-focused NFT platform with the name “Autograph” in 2021. a lot of big names are getting into this space like Paris Hilton who also announced that she will be dropping the first NFT collection with SuperPlastic. Most recently Justin Bieber got into the NFT space and Kanye West posted on Twitter: “Do Not ask me to do a f*cking NFT.”
