FOX creates an NFT studio to promote Rick and Morty new show via the Blockchain Creative Labs as we can see more in our latest blockchain news today.
Dan Harmon’s animated show Rick and Morty will be the first show that will be curated entirely on the blockchain and consumers will also be able to buy NFTs based on the settings and the characters. Fox creates the NFT studio just because of that reason and it is best known for the Simpsons as well as plenty of other shows that star B-listed celebrities.
The CEO of Fox Entertainment Charlie Collier while rolling out the broadcast network’s fall lineup at this year’s media upfronts announced that the company is forming a blockchain-creating lab to create NFT based on the intellectual property it owns. According to Fox, the marketplace will be able to curate and sell digital goods ranging from NFTs and background art as well as GIFs, but also tokens that provide exclusive social experience to engage and to reward the fans. The NFT studio’s debut will align with the premiere of Krapoplis which is a new animated series that is helmed by Rick and Morty and Community creator Dan Harmon. Collier said:
“As an advertiser-focused, artist-first and animation-obsessed company, Fox is going to take advertisers into the world of blockchain-powered tokens, including NFTs. And Dan’s series, currently entitled ‘Krapopolis,’ will be the first-ever curated entirely on the blockchain. And just as we’re doing this for our own animation, we will also help your brands connect directly with fans and enthusiasts through NFTs.”
NFTs are unique digital tokens that exist on the blockchain and can be used as ownership deeds that are tied to digital or physical artwork, digital collectibles, music, and others as well. During the first quarter of 2021, the NFT market registered $1.5 billion in sales as per DappRadar. While the traditional TV ratings are dipping as audiences become fragmented, Fox is now betting on NFTs as a way of squeezing each cent from the properties.
As the NFT market expanded this year, there has been a growing debate about copyright as media companies and individuals pushed into space. DC Comics was also considering its own NFT sales and warned:
“Please note that the offering for sale of any digital images featuring DC’s intellectual property with or without NFTs, whether rendered for DC’s publications or rendered outside the scope of one’s contractual engagement with DC, is not permitted.”
