Non-fungible tokens or NFTs are making huge sums of money for visual artists and musicians as the crypto niche injected millions into the market. However, journalists and media outlets got involved as well once Quartz sold an article as an NFT for $1800, and then TIME magazine auctioned off three cover images as NFTs and got about a million dollars. The Associated Press sold one article as an NFT as well. The Times’ column explained that proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Neediest Cases Fund which is a non-profit organization that is operated by the paper.
As recently reported, One of the worlds largest and one of the most popular news outlets in the United States the New York Times (NYT) have been trying hard to find someone who understands blockchain inside-out in order to develop a proof-of-concept (PoC) that will improve the news publishing technology. What is interesting is that the original listing from Time’s website has been taken down and is currently unavailable on other listings sites such as Indeed were it still, however, visible.
The reasons why the job listings were removed are still unknown. At the time of writing, the New York Times still hasn’t responded to the many requests from multiple sources why this is the case. The listing said that the news giant is seeking a ‘’forward-looking leader who will help envision and design a blockchain-based proof of concept for news publishers.’’
