Walmart is hiring a digital currency and cryptocurrency product lead as we can see from the listing on its website and career platforms like LinkedIn a few hours ago so let’s read more in today’s crypto news today.
North America’s biggest retailer by sales is looking to hire an expert in crypto and digital payments. Walmart is hiring a digital currency and crypto product lead that will be for the development of the digital currency strategy and the product roadmap and it is likely that Walmart is making more moves to accept crypto as payments but no details were provided:
“As one of the largest retailers and e-commerce companies, Walmart enables broad set of payment options for its customers.”
The position seeks the “expert in Digital Currencies/ Cryptocurrency and Blockchain related technologies” that will drive the vision for the product and capabilities roadmap. The applicants will have to identify crypto-related investment partnerships. The basic requirements for the position are a Bachelor’s Degree, ten years of experience in product or program management, tech commercialization, and experience in the crypto space and related technologies but the salary was not specified. The position advertisement came less than a month after Amazon posted a new job offering for a crypto and blockchain product lead.
The Payments Acceptance and Experience team at Amazon posted a new ad for the “experienced product leader to develop Amazon’s digital currency and Blockchain strategy and product roadmap.” the move initiated widespread speculation that the online shopping giant will start accepting crypto payments via Amazon but the company denied all reports that it will start accepting BTC. Two years ago, Walmart applied for a new patent on a stable crypto token similar to Facebook’s Libra project but there was no more news on that since it emerged. In December 2020, Walmart onboarded to the blockchain-based rewards platform StormX and it offered a 4% cryptoback initiative for the purchases made in Walmart at the time.
Walmart also experimented with blockchain for non-financial purposes like food tracking and drug tracking along the supply chain. It is only a matter of time that the world’s retail giants open the doors even wider for enabling crypto payments but the rest will follow fast when it happens.
