Ross Ulbricht shares his vision on Decentralized social media and outlined a new concept for it, arguing that a user-centric protocol will put an end to big tech monopolies so let’s read more in our latest cryptocurrency news.
Ross Ulbricht shares an opinion and a proposal for a decentralized social media network that will address the many problems caused by centralized ones. In a medium post, he explained that he is serving a life sentence in US prison but noted that he has plans to launch a decentralized social media network if he gets pardoned.

However, since he doesn’t know when or what will happen, he shared his idea with the world online and argued that giving the users power to create websites and choose which ones to visit is not merely enough in a world controlled by tech giants:
“When we talk about decentralization, we are talking about putting all the decision-making power and authority in the hands of the users.”
Had I been given clemency, I was planning to help build a decentralized social media network. Now we don’t know when or if that will happen, so here are my ideas. I hope they help. https://t.co/LJxyOGAkae

In order to control the process of interaction with social media platforms, his DSP will give users the ability to manage access to their content with the encryption tools and the scheme will involve key sharing with the services providers that will not have access to unencrypted content. Ulbricht said that this represents a radical shift from the current paradigm from the DSP strips that tech giants of their monopolies impose. The new concept will require a new approach to how online services are designed and there are three stakeholders according to Ulbricht, interface providers, advertisers, and content servers.
Instead of having a centralized platform to play the role of intermediary, a DSP-based system means that the advertisers will pay users directly by bidding for placing ads on their interface, and these providers will compete for the ad revenue. This means that the user is holding the keys and controls the value generated by the system. He noted that while major social media platforms focus on various content types like videos or short messages, at their base they offer a way to communicate with others and to share content:
“Approaching the design of DSP from this level of abstraction will both simplify it and maximize its reach.”
Ulbricht is not the only one to experiment with this idea of decentralizing social media as a number of other platforms like Mastodon and Minds tried to launch a new concept with low levels of success.
