UFC fighters are now able to receive bonuses in Bitcoin thanks to the latest partnership with Crypto.com so let’s read more in our latest Bitcoin news today.
The ultimate fighting championship will pay its fighter bonuses in Bitcoin thanks to the new partnership with crypto exchange Crypto.com. The organization will dole out BTC payouts to the top three fighters on every UFC pay-per-view event and according to a Crypto.com spokesperson, the UFC sponsor will supply the bonuses and not UFC. The fan votes will determine the three fighters and the selected will split a total sum of $60,000 worth of BTC according to Crypto.com, $30,000 worth of BTC will be given to the first place, $20,000 to the second place and $10,000 to the third place. UFC President Dana White said:
“Crypto.com has been an official UFC partner for less than a year, and I’m telling you they are already one of the best partners we’ve had. They’re constantly coming up with new ideas about how we can work together to connect with the fans.”
The UFC fighters are now able to get BTC bonuses but this is not the first time for Crypto.com to enter the sports marketing world. Back in 2021, the exchange made headlines after forking over $700 million for the naming rights of the LA Lakers’ stadium. In turn, this is not the first time that UFC dabbled in the world of crypto either. The organization signaled the goal to get involved in NFTs when it filed two patent applications. The first was a trademark to launch UFC-branded crypto and the second aimed to provide an app for the UFC native cryptocurrency:
“Downloadable software which provides members to receive, access, spend, trade and manage cryptocurrency, digital currency, digital tokens, non-fungible tokens, digital collectibles, and digital assets.”
One month earlier, UFC champion Francis Ngannou made $580,000 from the NFT collaboration which is greater than his guaranteed fight purse for the bout with Stipe Miocic at UFC 260.
As recently reported, UFC partnered with DApper Labs according to an announcement on their official website, and it will now launch a new NFT collection dubbed UFC Strike. The collection will start with a round of 100k packs and each will include three moments from UFC in a form of non-fungible tokens. These moments will feature a short video of the fight scene of popular fighters alogn with multiple camera angles, crowd response, and commentary. The fans can now join a queue on the official UFC Strike website to get a chance to buy a back of 50 USD and the website includes a P2P marketplace where teh fans can connect, buy and sell their moments.
