The latest social media giant to embrace the NFT sector is Reddit following Twitter and Youtube. Reddit joins the NFT bandwagon by launching a new feature that will allow users to add any NFT they own as a profile picture. The move was already done by Twitter which launched a similar feature less than a week ago where subscribers that pay the subscription can add and verify FNTs. Reddit already has its own Ethereum-based NFT collection dubbed Cryptosnoos which is released in a limited number in 2021.

There were a few details available regarding the latest foray into NFTs. Reddit stated that this test is in the early stages and hasn’t been made available to the public users on the site. Tim Rathscdhmidt, a company spokesperson said that it was a small internal test, and the decisions on rolling it out fully have yet to be made:

“We’re always exploring ways to provide value for users and communities on Reddit. At the moment we’re testing the ability to use NFTs as profile pictures (avatars) and verify ownership,”

This is not Reddit’s first NFT entry as it has been pushing its SNoos collection that got a mixed reaction. Most users on the platform are anti-crypto and don’t like NFTs so they didn’t hold back to the announcement. Reddit also has a test collection of alien NFTs on OpenSea that were not for sale. Video streaming giant Youtube dipped its toes into NFTs as well with an announcement that it will be enabling NFTs for content creators. The CEO Susan Wojcicki said that the company is focused on expanding the Youtube ecosystem to help creators capitalize on emerging technologies like NFTs. Despite the 25% market slump so far this year, NFTs are gaining momentum and the analysts say that there have been $608 million in weekly secondary sales which means this figure is double than the one last December. The winner of this week in terms of NFT collections is Azuki with $105 million in seven-day sales volume.
