Binance becomes official sponsor of the African Cup of Nations which is the biggest African soccer tournament in the world. Veron Mosenago-Omba who is the CAF General Secretary noted:
“I am delighted to welcome Binance as an official sponsor of the AFCON tournament this year. Through this partnership with CAF, Binance will connect further with its users and the African community through football.”
Binance’s CMO Yi-He is optimistic about the partnership and the role of Africa in the leading blockchain development in the future:
“With a population of 1.2 billion Africans and the prevalence of blockchain technology and its use cases, we believe the African continent could lead the future of the blockchain industry.”
The Binance director for Africa, Emmanual Babalola, added that football is the most popular sport in Africa and it corroborates the mission to take crypto mainstream across the continent. The AFCON tournament that started in January 2022, sees 24 nations compete for a spot in the finals that will take place on February 6, 2022. the tournament also features some of soccer’s world’s biggest names like Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. Binance is not the first exchange to see the promise of sports advertising. Exchanges like FTX and Coinbase also poured resources into the field for a few months as well.
FTX that is led by CEO Sam Bankman-Fried went all-in on sports marketing and finalized a deal with the Miami Heat that saw the NBA team’s stadium renamed to FTX Arena. The exchange also became the official crypto exchange brand of the MLB where umpires sport the FTX logo on the uniforms. The US branch of the exchange announced more deals with the NBA Washington Wizards and the NHL Washington Capitals. Coinbase on the other hand became the exclusive crypto platform partner of the NBA in October as the company announced a sponsorship deal with NBA Star Kevin Durant.
As recently reported, The crypto exchange Binance US will build an office in Portals which is a metaverse platform built on Solana’s blockchain. Portals recreate an urban environment where the users can explore buildings and other interactive rooms. The exchange will get a space into the Portals Downtown with the main focus on delivering the latest charts, news, and events. As per the reports, FTX.US also considering building its own office into Portals.
