Vitality will launch NFTs and will wear the tezos logo on the players’ jerseys and more. A few weeks after revealing the NFT deal with game publisher Ubisoft, the Proof of stake blockchain network TEzos is taking more steps into the esports industry. The Tezos Foundation announced a sponsorship deal with Team Vitality which is a leading European Esports organization. The deal will run through 2024 and will see Tezos become Vitality’s main partner among others including Adidas and PC hardware maker Corsair. The image shared by both parties shows a variety of Vitality players that are wearing the jersey with the Tezos logo.
Beyond the jersey sponsorship, Tezos will develop technical blockchain-based applications for the team as well as NFT collectibles, NFT marketplace, and fan engagement opportunities. Vitality players will work further to educate esports fans about blockchain tech as well as other teams that are made crypto sponsorships. The terms of the deal were not disclosed in the press release, Vitality described the alliance as its biggest deal to date and one of the biggest European partnerships in esports.
Tezos entered Esports while Vitality competes in Riot Games’ prominent League of Legends European Championship franchised league as well as other competitive games such as Counter-Strike, Fortnite, and Rocket League. Vitality’s deal with Tezos is the latest in the surge of partnerships between esports teams and leagues and crypto companies. The crypto exchange FTX made the biggest headlines in the space so far as it sponsored the popular club team SoloMid in a 10-year naming rights deal. The exchange also signed a seven-year deal with Riot Games to sponsor the League of Legends esports competitions. In the meantime, the crypto exchange coinbase signed deals with Evil Geniuses, Team Liquid, BIG in 2021, and a new partnership with ESL operators.
Crypto.com sponsored the team Fantic and Uniswap sponsored Team Secret in a marketing grant voted on by the UNI token holders. While the crypto industry partnerships are flourishing in the esports industry, the traditional video game publishers faced a lot of backlash for embracing NFTs. Ubisoft’s recent tie-up with Tezos for the in-game NFTs items was also met with social media backlash but the project still went ahead.
On the other hand, GSC Game World delayed its plans to implement NFT into its game after the fan pushback and the chat app Discord canned the crypto wallets integration following a similar response. The game publishers like Konami and Square Enix also got negative feedback from the announcements of their NFT plans.
