NBA superstar Kevin Durant agreed to promote crypto in a deal with the crypto exchange Coinbase as we can see more in our latest coinbase news.
NBA superstar Kevin Durant made a deal with Coinbase to appear as a “face of the brand” and in turn, Coinbase will run crypto ads and sponsored content on Boardroom which is Durant’s sports website while all of the funds will be donated to Durant’s charitable foundation to support the youth. Rich Kleiman, Durant’s manager said:
“Kevin does very, very few brand deals and that was by design. They’re this new model of brand partner for us, where they do integrate in all different parts of our business.”
Durant is also quite happy about the new deal, as he mentioned:
“Even when I was younger, I was always curious about the business side of things and always trying to learn from the people I’ve gotten to meet along the way. Basketball was always number one for me, but it was clear that there was a lot more that I could accomplish if I had the right team around me.”
Durant was an early Coinbase investor back in 2017 through the Thirty-Five Ventures which is his investment fund with Kleiman, but now this new deal makes him a public ambassador. He and Kleiman launched SPAC or a special purpose acquisition company called Infinite Acqusiiton Corp focusing on the crypto industry. The SPAC is a collaboration between Thirty-Five Ventures and banking company LionTree. In the recent Infinite SEC filling, the broad scope of acquisition targets ranged from the sports industry, wellness, health, e-commerce, food technology, and supply industry. The crypto industry is also popular in the filing:
“These technologies make the internet ownable, providing new ways to reward and compensate creators for their work allowing unbound creativity.”
Durant’s Coinbase deal is one in a long line of partnerships that were established between crypto companies and sports stars. This year we saw the emergence of a new trend in sports and crypto marketing when FTX exchange led the way in a 19-year deal that saw the Miami Heats stadium renamed to the FTX Arena. The Laker’s stadium is now called the Crypto.com Arena. This however was not the first time Coinbase entered the NBA. The crypto exchange even became the official crypto platform of the NBA and WNBA back in October. Other sports also saw the rise of crypto marketing.
