Crypto adoption in Croatia is growing at an exponential rate as Konzum announced earlier this week, it will start accepting crypto payments for its online stores, as we can see today in our crypto news.
This is only the first phase of Croatia’s biggest supermarket chain because the company plans to roll out the service in all of its stores. The country is becoming one of the best crypto-climate countries in the world at a fast pace. The member of Konzum’s Management Board for finance and IT Uros Kalinic noted:
“This move is the first of its kind in Croatia, making Konzum the first and only retail chain in the country to accept crypto payments. The introduction of cryptocurrency payments is another indicator that Konzum is constantly monitoring global trends, introducing innovations and setting the standard in the retail sector.”
Kalinic continued to explain:
“Payment with cryptocurrencies is certainly still in its infancy here in Croatia, but the experience of our partner Electrocoin justifies this investment. Just as our customers use banking applications for electronic payments, we believe that this service will get its share as far as transactions go as well. From year to year, we see a decrease in the share of cash transactions, which is logical in the age of digitalization and coronavirus when cash payments have been discouraged for epidemiological reasons.”
Besides BTC, the supermarket will receive payments in Bitcoin Cash, USDC, Ethereum, EOS, Ripple, UST, and Stellar. Crypto adoption in Croatia is on the rise and although payments with crypto might be a phase in its infancy, for the past two years we can see Croatians buying crypto coins at the post office. They can also start selling them now via more than 50 select post offices that cover all counties in the country. The reports show that the users also have access to the crypto center which is a dedicated website for all Croatian Post services related to crypto.

The website has a built-in exchange rate list and an interactive map that shows addresses of post offices that offer these services:
“Crypto-stamps can also be purchased on the website, another novelty with which Croatian Post connected domestic philately with new technological trends, ie the NFT market.”
The post office accepts 11 cryptocurrencies such as Ripple, bitcoin, Stellar, Ether, Bitcoin Cash, dai, Kusama, Polkadot, USDC, USD Coin. Besides the post office, there are three exchange offices that also do business with crypto.
