Osaka is considering investing in crypto and she said that her interest was enhanced by Dogecoin. Osaka’s agent pitched her the idea of investing in crypto but she already said she was looking into Dogecoin after looking into the social media buzz:
“I was actually just talking with my agent about cryptocurrencies. I know that online, everything is getting bigger. I remember reading about Dogecoin … there’s going to be something new and interesting that’s going to pop up.”
Osaka already entered the NFT space soon after she did, we saw the wider market surging to $2.5 billion worth of trading volume in the first half of 2021. NFT marketplace OpenSEa surpassed $3 billion in volume while back in April Osaka released a series of NFT collectibles that were designed by Mari Osaka, her sister, a retired tennis pro. The sales generated $600,000 to benefit Osaka’s Play Academy foundation and one of the NFTs which was won for just $5 was listed on a secondary marketplace with an asking price of $200,000.
Autograph.io founded by NFL quarterback Tom Brady launched a new series of Naomi Osaka NFT collectibles and the NFTs ranged in price between $12 and $1500 apiece which all sold out. Some Ruby Signed NFTs sold for $1500 each are listed on DraftKings’ secondary market starting at $350,000 apiece. Autograph already released NFT collectibles from NHL Legend Wayne Gretzky and Brady but also a debut from the first NFT by Simone Biles. NFTs featuring retired New York Yankees star Derek Jeter will be released soon.
Osaka’s autograph collectibles released alongside the current 2021 US Open, are one of the four major tournaments of the tennis world. The US Open just launched a new NFT collectible developed in partnership with VaynerNFT.
