Graham Ivan Clark, the Twitter hacker will serve 3 years of probation following a jail term, for running a crypto Phishing Scheme including high-profile accounts like the ones of Barack Obama, Elon Musk and Joe Biden so let’s read more in our latest crypto news.
Graham Ivan Clark who was 17 when he committed the crime, was charged as a “youthful offender” for hacking into the Social platform Twitter and took control of accounts or prominent figures as a Judge said during a virtual hearing on Tuesday. The twitter hacker will serve to spend some of his sentences at a boot camp but will also receive credit for serving 239 days in prison up to date.
The Twitter hacker was arrested with two co-conspirators last year after the Twitter hack where over 100 high-profile accounts were taken over. The hijacked accounts posted links to a crypto scam that netted the scammers $120K at the time but Clark pled not guilty initially. The Tampa Bay Times reported that he will plead guilty as of Tuesday morning. State Prosecutor Derrell Dirks said:
“The factual basis for each of these counts relate to the criminal, fraudulent takeover of many Twitter accounts, and then using this fraudulent takeover to convince their victims to send cryptocurrency to cryptocurrency accounts under the control of the perpetrators.”
Prosecutors charged Clark with multiple felony counts including several counts of communications fraud, organized fraud, fraudulent use of personal information, and accessing computers with no authority. Both the Twitter hacker and his attorney David Weisbrod affirmed that all of the stolen cryptocurrencies were turned over to the officials for restitution. He also agreed to unlimited searchers and will also provide unlimited access to his electronic devices for supervising.
As recently reported, The mastermind used the access to sell accounts that were created when Twitter started moving to the Bitcoin scam where multiple high-profile accounts tweeted messages that requested donations to fake coronavirus-related cryptocurrency charities or offering to send double the value of the BTC sent to a scam address. During the court hearing, prosecutors argued that about 300 BTC held by Clark will not be eligible for use in the bail payments saying that “every penny that this defendant has access to is by ill-gotten gains.”
