Football star Gerard Pique of FC Barcelona has become a Strategic Advisor in Sorare’s blockchain-based platform for non-fungible tokens as we are reading more in the latest crypto news today.
Fantasy Football website Sorare welcomed the Football star Gerard Pique as its new Strategic Advisor as the famous player made major investments in the non-fungible tokens platform. In another crypto-soccer related investment, FC Barcelona player joined the NFT platform Sorare as the new Strategic Advisor according to an official announcement as one of the most distinguished and accomplished players who also made investments in the NFT website.
The publication doesn’t specify the investment amount as the media outlets reported, with the seed investment being approximately $8.5 million and it came from the soccer star and the Cassius family fund as well as other investors. Based on blockchain technology, the company focuses on sports audiences that allow fans to trade and collect NFTs of soccer players from the top leagues across the world using digital cards. Pique’s latest entry into the virtual side of sports is far from being the only one. Barcelona’s defender has participated in a few other media initiatives that engage in technology related to blockchain including the project for modernizing the Davis Cup.
The NFT investment is led by the US-based fund Cassius Family with Pique cooperating in order to include some of the best sports leagues in the world. Sorare’s announcement explained:
“With Gerard on board, we’ll be working together to onboard the top 20 leagues in the world. Gerard’s investment will help us expand our global presence to reach more football fans around the world.”
FC Barcelona supporters have some history with crypto as back in June, the prominent soccer club released the official Barca Fan tokens which is a project that used the networks of blockchain platforms Socios and Chiliz by managing to sell 600,000 tokens that were priced at 2EUR each in just a few hours. Sorare’s efforts to the collection of digital sports cards were increasing in popularity especially from the fantasy soccer industry. the recent applications include onboarding a fanbase from across the world and taking advantage of new economic opportunities with the NFT applications.
As previously reported, Germany’s champions FC Bayern Munich entered the blockchain-based virtual soccer space with the sports club joining Sorare in another similar collaboration from 2019 once it announced the partnership with blockchain platforms Striking Entertainment in order to promote crypto-collectibles of the Bayern players. The cards were a part of the fantasy league-style challenges that are both playable and collectible.
