New reports in the blockchain news today show that one consortium in South Korea wants to strengthen the medical tourism in the country by launching a blockchain-powered platform. The initiative is centered in Busan, where a private-public consortium announced their intention to build the new tourism platform – without a strict deadline set for the project.
Information from Gyeongnam Ilbo shows that this initiative will be led by Busan Bank. The idea of an improvement in the field of medical tourism comes as South Korea wants to establish a platform in the second largest city of the country in terms of population.
Therefore, the main goal of the group is to strengthen the entire medical tourism sector. Currently, the consortium includes Pusan National University Hospital, Dong-A University Hospital, Gosin University Gospel Hospital, Samyuk Busan Hospital, and payment brokerage company Knet Co. Ltd.
In an agreement, we can see that local companies are also excited for the medical tourism platform and look forward to joining forces with the banking sector. Specifically, their eyes are set on the partnership with Busan Bank, to launch a smartphone mobile app which will be called “Regional Mobile Medical Tourism Platform.”
In this manner, the banking institution wants to channel all medical tourism-based transactions through the blockchain powered app. The goal is to promote the field and people seeking for plastic surgery and other cosmetic procedures. By offering currency exchange and account opening services, the platform aims to connect patients with medical institutions in Busan.
“The Busan Bank will actively cooperate to make Busan the best medical tourism specialty district in Korea. We will play a role in revitalizing the local medical tourism business,” said Bin Dae-in, one of the executives at Busan Bank.
The field of medical tourism is becoming very popular in Asia and across the entire continent. We recently saw a major South Korean insurance firm named KB Insurance announcing its plans to implement a blockchain platform along with a mobile message delivery system for its clients.
Earlier this month, there were also reports about South Korean merchants who were apparently open to accepting digital yuan as a means of payment in the near future.
