The state Senator from Georgia Michael Williams has turned himself into the police after he was accused of insurance fraud and this is what we are reading in today’s crypto news.
Senator Williams has previously been related to cryptocurrency after introducing the Senate Bill 464 that aimed to induce the state’s revenue authority to be able to receive cryptocurrency as payments when paying taxes. He was charged after an investigation that proved Williams lied about the theft of crypto mining equipment and computer serves from his campaign offices in Monroe Drive in Gainesville.
William’s campaign manager allegedly claimed that the thieves took away all of the computer equipment that was worth more than $300,000. He lied to the policemen and the investigators after filing a false insurance claim.
The Senator turned himself the day after Christmas but he was released on a $10,000 bail the same afternoon. He did not comment on the charges but his attorney continued to defend him by saying:
‘’Mr. Williams did not do this. We are not really apprised of their evidence yet. While they haven’t disclosed that, I am sure they will soon. But at this point, we don’t know what if they say we did other than what the indictment says.’’
Williams became popular in the public after saying that he would implement a ‘’deportation bus’’ and he even called himself the most anti-illegal candidate in the history of the state. His campaign bus was supposed to be surrounded with messages such as: ‘’Danger: Murderers, Kidnapers, Rapists, and other criminals on board.’’
