The social media magnate, Facebook that is all the time mixed in controversy, could censor Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrency websites again. It looks like posts that are related to cryptos are a violation of community guidelines. Twitter user @Elijaboom, the founder and CEO of Ajoobs.com, a cryptocurrency marketing, and PR company, said that he could not send a link toa Bitcoin (BTC) website toa colleague in Turkey.
When he tried to send the link, he received a failure message after failure message and then received a warning that he was cannot send the link because of a violation of community guidelines. It is unclear if another update or change occurred to the community guidelines again, by Facebook, prohibiting cryptocurrency content. The last public update was from June 26th, 2018, when Facebook removed the ban on cryptocurrencies.
The controversial history of the relation between Facebook and cryptocurrencies started at the peak of the ICO boom of 2017. Many ICO projects utilized the advertising on Facebook to promote cryptos and blockchain projects directly to retail investors that were not enough sophisticated. Many of the marketed projects were pure frauds, or were legitimate projects that imploded in the ensuing crypto winter bear market, and faced the loss of 90+% of their value. Responding to this Facebook banned cryptocurrency ads and content.
However, days after the publicization of Facebook’s Libra cryptocurrency, Facebook relinquishes the ban on cryptocurrency content and adds but with far stricter guidelines, projects had to be regulated and demonstrate compliance. This motive to work on the preservation of its self-interest was observed as a hypocritical by cryptocurrency enthusiasts who claim that Facebook relinquishes the ban only when was beneficial to the cause of the Libra project. Besides that, it is only hypothetical it is probable that for the benefit of a successful launch of Facebook’s new crypto news channel, the Facebook censorship is back again and started banning cryptocurrency news and content to allow them to skip news that is negative about Libra.
