Cryptopia exchange was granted permission to resume trading by the New Zealand police after it was hacked recently as we reported in our blockchain news. However, the exchange will not be resuming with its activity according to an exchange staff member message posted on the Discord Channel.
After the hack, the exchange was damaged with more than $16 million stolen from the platform for which the police had started an investigation aiming to track and find the hackers. The initial hack attack happened on January 15 and lasted about two weeks and in the meantime, thousands of funds were removed from the exchange’s ETH wallets.
The message from the Cryptopia staff member notes:
“While the Police statement that they are no longer constraining our return to operations and trading, it would be extremely reckless for us to do this until we can fully identify the losses and ensure that the balance is absolutely secure.”
This statement also points out that the legislation in New Zealand states that it is illegal for a company to allow trading that places the assets and property of all the creditors at high risk.
Catching up on the other hack attack news, the United States law enforcement also managed to recover and return more than $103,000 that was stolen from the Bitfinex crypto exchange that happened in 2016 in which 120,000 BTC were stolen.
Also, news broke out that the crypto brokerage Coinmama based in Israel has suffered a major data breach that allegedly affected about 450,000 of its users.
