The Russians are known as a country that is very conservative when it comes to trading and especially holding cryptocurrencies or any digital assets. However, the people seem to not think in the same direction – and the national capital is taking a leadership in making more democratic moves that will serve them in the best way possible.
One of the first cities to push this initiation is the city of Moscow. According to some sources, the city has been allowing residents to cast votes for measures that range from the name of the new metro train to the color of the seats in their new sports arena. All of this done through a blockchain platform.
Obviously, cryptocurrencies are another topic of ‘full transparent democracy’. According to sources, Moscow is adding a private version of the Ethereum blockchain to their architecture which will foster many new innovations.
The new ethereum-based platform designed by the city of Moscow will allow anyone to audit the open source results. To date, it has been downloaded by more than 100 node operators since its December launch. This way, the city of Moscow hopes to gain the trust of the citizens of Moscow and help them make better decisions.
As the strategy and innovations advisor to the city’s CIO Andrey Belozerov says, “The idea is to put all the votes to the blockchain to make it open so everybody can connect to our blockchain network, and to check the voting process, and so-on and so-forth.””
The only challenge for this platform right now is its adoption. As Belozerov says, the potential adoption will be the right stress test to see if the blockchain platform will survive (if used by 12 million or less citizens).
The big question now is…
Is Russia joining the ‘blockchain cold war’?
