Bitcoin Lighting Payments Are Coming To Apple Watch (Via An App)

As of today, everyone can receive Bitcoin lighting payments on their Apple smartwatches, all thanks to an app which revolutionizes the Bitcoin’s lighting payment network in a few taps. As the latest cryptocurrency news show, the app was launched on Sunday by Bluewallet which is one of the most popular lighting network wallets out there.

The new app for Apple Watch allows users to receive Bitcoin lighting payments over the new payment technology: lighting. This way, transactors can use the smartwatch app to generate QR codes – square-shaped barcodes – until someone else can then scan them with their smartphone and send a payment, respectively.

A couple of weeks ago, Bluewallet also posted a sneak peek of the Bitcoin lighting payments app which went viral on the best cryptocurrency news sites. However, now the app is live and officially downloadable from the iTunes store. The product and UX engineer behind it, Nuno Coelho, said that the app is “a small experiment we’re doing to put wallets on the watch. The first releases will be simple, allowing you to receive lightning payments.”

Right now, Bitcoin lighting payments are not that needed on smartwatches, you may think. However, when you think about it, these watches offer a great deal of convenience and help users access information in a couple of taps – directly from their wrist. In that manner, the simplicity of Bitcoin lighting payments is in the focus.

Bluewallet, which is the company behind the app, is now testing to see if users might like to use the Bitcoin lighting payments for Bitcoin payments as well. As Coelho said:

“Sometimes the convenience of just [receiving bitcoin] with two taps from your wrist can be a relevant user experience, specially on the go or if you need to be fast. This might be useful when you are buying Bitcoin from someone but don’t feel comfortable taking out your phone.”

Still, even Coelho stressed out that this is an experiment with Bitcoin lighting payments, adding that the technology itself is very experimental at this phase – and they don’t know how many users will actually download and use the app.
