The public transport card SUBE in Argentina can now be filled up not only with cash but with Bitcoin (BTC) according to the reports coming from the country into our bitcoin news today.
A platform that was designed to add money to the SUBE Card (Sistema Único de Boleto Electrónico) named Alto Viaje, has now partnered with Bitex which is a blockchain-based business that provides financial services. Now because of the partnership, the SUBE card can be funded with BTC via the Alto Viaje website.
The CEO at Bitex Manuel Beaudroit, previously said that the SUBE card can be used to in kind of transportation whether that be a bus, train or a subway and claimed that the card is used by more than seven million people on more than 35 locations in Argentina. He said that the Alto Viaje worked previously with PayPal and another Argentinean digital payments system named Rapipago.
Beaudroit continued to explain what the main goal of the partnership is and their focus on providing people with bigger access to a revolutionary technology such as blockchain and Bitcoin.
Argentina’s Nacion Servicos S.A is what stands behind the SUBE as a subsidiary of Banco de la Nacion Argentina which is the country’s national bank.
This idea has been tested and is working in the UK after the public transport provider Go-Ahead partnered with the blockchain startup DOVU to provide a tokenized rewards system for all the rails users. DOVU will use the ERC20 token DOV to reward the members for sharing their travel data.
