A few tobacco shops in Paris are now selling Bitcoin for fiat currency according to the crypto news reports coming from France.
Bitcoin is now available for purchase throughout several shops in Paris despite the extremely uncertain regulatory framework. However, this could be a part of the experiment conducted by Keplerk-French crypto wallet provider where more than 20 shops are participating.

Customers can buy BTC for 50, 100 or 250 euros and they will be provided with an alphanumeric code or a QR code that will easily transfer your bitcoins into the Keplerk’s wallet. The wallet provider charges 7 percent fee on each transfer and 1.25 euros go for the tobacco shop.
The co-founder of Keplerk Adil Zakhar hopes to expand the project to more than 6,000 shops by the end of February.
The tobacco federation of France now has the license and permission to trade Bitcoin in the tobacco shops. The license was given to the federation by the French Prudential Supervision and Resolution Authority which is basically a branch of the Central Bank of France, but the central bank denied giving a green light for the licenses.
The French stock market regulator also issued a statement related to the risks of dealing with cryptocurrencies stating that the Keplerk wallet provider was not licensed by French authorities.
Despite the situation still being uncertain, there is not a real ban on selling bitcoins at tobacco shops. France has a history of having complicated feelings towards cryptocurrencies after first blacklisting crypto-related businesses and rejecting the amendments that were addressing cryptocurrencies in the finance bill but now somehow allow selling bitcoins in tobacco shops.
